Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, Howls Moving Castle… The Battle for Earthsea… My neighbor Totoro… all of them etc are all pure magic. I can’t wait to see The Boy and the Heron. (It’s supposedly already out in Japan hint hint)
I love these reflections on these gems! I’m so glad we started our Ghibli journey together with the unforgettable experience of Princess Mononoke. I had heard it maybe wasn’t appropriate for kids, but I also knew that you were a wise, curious and connected kid, and I had the sense that it would be the kind of magic you could handle. I am humbled by your words - they brought me to tears! I do feel kindred with San - and I think the film invites us all to consider how we relate to the archetypal energies of both San and Lady Eboshi. And ultimately to be the kind of fierce peacemakers who can advocate for the preciousness and dignity of all beings, like Ashitaka - whose qualities I see and admire abundantly in you! If I had to pick, I’d say Princess Mononoke is my favorite ... but I haven’t yet seen The Wind Rises (must remedy that soon) so we’ll see!

Saw it the other week! No subtitles, but it's beautiful as ever, if a little busy
These movies sound just great, and we need to explore them. Nice tribute to your mom, by the way! Keep on writing; you do it so well.
